Description

A comforting and simple chocolate cake recipe that is perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 34 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 34 tbsp heavy cream (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 dash salt (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13 inch pan with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, white sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smoothly blended.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  5. Slowly pour in the hot water and mix on low speed until everything is well incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, ensuring it settles evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-35 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  8. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.
  9. For the frosting, beat together the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and a dash of salt until smooth.
  10. Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream, mixing until creamy, then spread generously on the cooled cake.
