- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup M&M’s (plus more for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown, then remove from heat.
- Mix the browned butter with granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until glossy and slightly thickened.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the batter is smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the M&M’s, reserving some for topping.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, sprinkle with additional M&M’s, and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
