- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, warm
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, full-fat
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm. Add to the dry ingredients.
- Add egg, food coloring, and vanilla, then mix until a dough forms.
- Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread with softened butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll tightly into a log and cut into rolls.
- Place in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
- For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
- Once rolls are baked, let cool slightly and top with cream cheese frosting before serving.
Notes
Use room-temperature ingredients for better integration. Refrigerate shaped rolls overnight for a fresh bake in the morning.
