Description

Delicious homemade pastries filled with cream cheese and fresh strawberries, perfect for a light dessert or afternoon treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry (thawed to package directions)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheet as per package directions.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese with the white sugar and vanilla extract until smooth. Add red food coloring if desired.
  4. Dice the strawberries into small pieces and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  5. Unfold the puff pastry on a floured surface, cut into heart shapes.
  6. Spoon cream cheese filling onto each pastry heart, top with diced strawberries.
  7. Whisk the egg with cold water and brush the edges of the pastry.
  8. Bake at 400°F for 12-16 minutes until golden.
  9. Cool for 8-12 minutes on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

These danishes can be served warm or at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
