Description

Delicious and flaky danishes filled with cream cheese and fresh strawberries, perfect for any time of the day.


Ingredients

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry (two sheets), thawed but still cool
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for berries)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar + 12 teaspoons milk for glaze
  • Optional: lemon zest, almond extract, or sliced almonds for topping

Instructions

  1. Thaw pastry in the refrigerator until pliable but cool. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Beat cream cheese with sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Toss strawberries with lemon juice, 1 tablespoon sugar, and cornstarch.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out puff pastry sheets and cut into squares.
  5. Spoon cream cheese filling into the center of each square and top with strawberries.
  6. Brush pastry edges with egg wash, then bake on a parchment-lined sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  7. Let cool for 10 minutes, then glaze with powdered sugar mixture.
  8. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

For best texture, avoid stacking danishes directly on top of one another while storing.
